Greetings,
Some things to look out for in your early days in EVE are scams and ganking. While both are integral parts of the sandbox environment, you can help protect yourself from both with basic habits. There are a few simple rules to follow in your early days and in general. We will put these in a list format.
1. Never undock what you cant afford to lose, every zone is a PVP zone and ships are expendable. 2. Always read contracts carefully and never, ever pay anyone to join a group. 3. Never use autopilot or AFK in space, set a destination and right click on "next system in route". 4. Bigger is not better, bigger ships have massively inflated skill requirements to fly effectively. 5. Find a community and make friends, this game is only as good as the people you play it with.
If you are looking for a community to hang out with while you find your way in EVE, consider joiningKarmaFleet University as a first step in the game. This group has no requirements for skillpoints, experience or activity and is completely forbidden from scamming. KFU is a highsec branch ofKarmaFleetand is rooted in the belief that new players are the lifeblood of a game and providing homes to them along with veterans who share this ideal leads to a growing and happy gaming community. If you desire you can apply to join KFU in game by clicking the corporation link.
EVE University is another fantastic group of people who maintain an organization which has been active since 2004. Their core ethics are based on helping new players and veterans alike. This, paired with their status as a non-profit and multi-security status group makes it one of the best places to be in the game. To join Eve University visithttps://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Applying_to_EVE_Universityand follow the instructions to apply.
Regardless of where you choose to hang your hat in this game, never forget that each group is unique. Many will say they are the best or brightest or most powerful but at the end of the day it is your decision where you choose to hang out. Take your time and remember that every corporation (EVE speak for guild/clan) is unique and has a differnt culture than every other.
Good luck in the game, have a great and safe day.
