The son of a Gallentean husband and wife mining team, Jon spent his formative years scurrying around his parents 'Venture' class mining frigate learning the basics of starship operation and maintenance. Both his parents were killed in a Veldspar asteroid belt when their Venture was jumped by a gang of Serpentis rats. Jon barely escaped with his life and spent days drifting through space in his escape pod. An old retired Federation Navy droneboat capsuleer on a Courier run found him drifting in deadspace delirious and malnourished. A firm believer in "peace through superior drone power", Joe 'The Hammer' Scalzi took Jon under his wing and taught him the subtleties of drone operation and hybrid turret gunnery. Uncle Joe's strange nickname and past were never discussed, but his scarred features and ancient implants spoke of a lifetime on the Navy front line.

Always bright and eager to learn, and encouraged by his Uncle Joe, Jon enrolled in the CAS as soon as he was old enough.
