Rooney was a "console cowboy," a hacker who navigated the Matrix, stealing information for criminals who paid her. Se was trained by McCoy Pauley and Bobby Quine, widely considered two of the best hackers in Caldari Space. Rooney's career came to an end when she made the mistake of trying to steal money from his employers; in retaliation, they infected her with a mycotoxin to damage his nervous system and make her unable to jack into cyberspace. After this, Rooney wound up an impoverished and depressed drug addict, living in Jita.
In Jita, Rooney, addicted to drugs and suffering from depression. Was a regular at the Chatsubo bar, Her only other close relationship was with Linda Lee, who she introduced to her drugs, and inadvertently turned into an addict like herself. Rooney life in Jita comes to an end Linda Lee is killed at an arcade, realizing she has nothing left, she becomes a pilot, and leaves the sistem, trying to finding a fresh start in the vastness of space.
