Childhood friends of Jerel and Shugo Andomer, Marent's family was neither as wealthy nor as prestigious as theirs. When they ascended to become capsuleers Marent found himself left behind. However, he was ambitious and driven to succeed. When he heard about an experimental new technology being developed that would dramatically lower the cost of capsuleer augmentation he immediately signed up for the clinical trials.
Despite apparent success it quickly became clear that the procedure had not gone as expected. Although his existing memories and functionality were unaltered his mind was incapable of assimilating new data. This applied both to the enhanced skills utilized by capsuleers as well as his mundane daily memories. However, this data was not simply being lost but was instead being stored up in other areas of his brain. In addition, he was not able to be extracted into a new clone with proper pathways. Eventually, this backlog of memory information overwhelmed his mind and he entered a comatose state.
RogueCorp paid for his treatment until they went bankrupt and he was placed in cryogenic suspension with Native Freshfood. After successfully restructuring their organization, RogueCorp took him off ice and back into their care. Months of exhaustive treatment and surgery later, he finally regained consciousness. Although the technology has since been perfected this experience has left him with a profound fear of the entire cloning process. As such, he refuses to have his consciousness moved to a new and fully functional body. Instead, he relies on regular Skill Extractions to keep his brain from exceeding capacity. This has proved to be so lucrative that he created a RogueCorp subsidiary, Amygdala Farms to scale up this process.
