Sebastian rarely talks of his past, but a classmate at the Pator Tech School revealed that there was just one occasion when the class were celebrating a resounding win at Murder Ball. Sebastian was very drunk, a most unusual event, and started ranting about his father. It also turned out that Randall wasn't his real name, that his family name was Frandall, and that he had applied to have it changed, principally because of his father.
Sebastian was ranting that his father had been a full blown sociopath, often abusing his mother and his sisters, and though it had been close, his father had never attacked him, but often sat staring at Sebastian with a wild-eyed stare. He reckoned that his father had been an agent for some government agency, and that when some of the business the agency had been involved in became known, nearly all its members were 'disappeared' in mysterious circumstances, with the exception of his father. However, when Sebastian was 17 years old, his father was killed in a shuttle crash that was never really explained. Significant funds appeared soon after, ensuring that Sebastian could attend the PT school, and that the rest of the family were financially secure for the foreseeable future.
Two of the other students were shocked by his rantings, but later confided that they recognised the name Frandall as the name of a shadowy figure rarely mentioned except in reference to rumours of some hideous experiments performed on psychically gifted individuals by a government agency. This figure had a reputation for ruthlessly eliminating any preceived threat, torturing suspects, and mass murder of anti-government activists.
The thought that Sebastian might be that man's son gave many of the students nightmares for weeks after. As for Sebastian himself, he never ever mentioned his father again, and made it a point of never again getting drunk.
His curious wild stare when the subject of his father was brought up was enough to silence any further discussion.
He was obsessed with space and being the very best, scoring top in many weapons tests, and displaying a natural talent for hand to hand combat, although he was disciplined on a number of occasions for injuring fellow students during practice.
There are those who say that he is much more similar to his father than Sebastian would like to admit...
